Sunrise over Angkor Wat – 2nd try

Todd was not too keen to get up with me at 4 am in order to be on time for the sunrise pictures of Angkor Wat – but being the lovely man he is, he peeled himself out of the cozy bed and we took off on our Cambodian uber.

This time I was there early enough and knew where to I set myself up. It’s a hit and miss with the sunrise over Angkor Wat, you never know if the clouds are not hanging too low or are too dense for the sun to break through.

I was snapping away, forgetting the time and somewhat zoomed out my busy environment. Every once in a while I stood up to shake my legs and at one point turned around – and saw this:

Todd took an even better picture to give you an idea what it means when I say “you are not alone at sunrise at Angkor Wat”!

But definitely still worth to see and experience :)!

It was the beginning of our last day where we decided to take a boat ride on Tonlé Sap, the big lake near Siem Reap, to visit the floating markets and the nearby lesser-visited temples of Prasat Bakong. Because you can beat the crowd, they are special and have a good energy.

That boat ride was one of it’s kind… we had the boat all to ourselves which was great. However, about 10 minutes into our trip, the motor started to make some gurgling noise which was tinted by big black smoke coming out of the engine. It made a final huff and puff before it stopped working altogether. Our captain tried his best to fix it but was missing the one tool to do so it seemed. We were towed to the mechanic’s boat in the floating village and continued our trip shortly thereafter.

The engine still made this gurgling sound and we were both slightly worried when we steered towards the big Tonlé Sap lake. We enjoyed the cruising around and the view over the "sea in the lake".

On our way back towards the floating village, however, it broke down again. And this time for good as your captain was looking to get us on another boat to get back to the harbor. I enjoyed being stuck for a while because we could watch the daily life of the villagers.
